Kristen Orgera, the new Director of Training Operations at Restoration Technical Institute, brings with her a versatile background from a variety of roles and industries in nonprofits, small businesses and education. Although she has only been working here for “longer than a fortnight,” she is already enjoying her time here. On her first day at work, Director of Education for the Restoration Technical Institute, Steve Schumm, let her drench the flood house in preparation for a Water Restoration Technician (WRT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD) IICRC course. “I got to hose down the carpet and sofa,” she reflects with a smile on her face. “It felt so wrong! It was awesome!”

Kristen works closely with Steve to schedule, organize, and market all of the Restoration Technical Institute’s IICRC and CE courses. She first became interested in education “while doing volunteer work at a school for special needs high school students.” She “loved seeing people grasp concepts, learn and grow.” As a result, she pursued a Masters in Art Education from Columbia College after receiving her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. While working for her families’ business, she became interested in marketing because she “loved the idea of teaching customers about products and selling them things that would be truly useful.”

She is grateful to be part of the team and looks forward to meeting and working with the diverse industry professionals who attend the Restoration Technical Institute. It is her aspiration to make their time at RTI as productive and fun as possible so they leave inspired to continue to learn and grow as industry professionals.

In her spare time, you can find Kristen rock climbing or practicing yoga. “I like the mental and physical challenge of the sports. I like pushing past the limits of my fear and the physical pain to see what I am truly capable of,” she explains. Kristen resides in Robesonia with her boyfriend, Robbie, who is a talented artist, and her “two cat children” Britney Spears and Yoshimi.
