Reading firefighters fill carts for kids during their annual toy drive

His red cart overflowing with Barbie dolls, Ron Banks maneuvered through the aisles of Target, dodging others packed high with Nerf guns, board games and basketballs.

“Someone go get another shopping cart,” the Reading firefighter called out Tuesday night in the Exeter Township store. “We’ve got a lot to spend.”Action figures buried under plastic bowling pins, hula hoops, art sets and, fittingly enough, a firefighter costume for kids, filled more than 20 carts, as more than a dozen Reading firefighters shopped for toys to support their seventh annual Christmas toy drive. –
